Townmore Celebrates a Milestone at Griffin Point with a Topping Out Ceremony with Housing Minister
On a crisp Wednesday morning in Donaghmede, the bustling construction site of Griffin Point played host to a significant milestone event attended by key figures in Irish housing and development. As the main contractor, Townmore was at the forefront, coordinating a topping out ceremony that marked a pivotal moment in the project’s timeline. This event was not just a celebration of structural completion but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to community and quality in urban development.
Griffin Point, which will provide 397 lifetime homes for the people of North Dublin, is a great example of collaboration between Bluemont, Respond, and Dublin City Council, with the support of Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD, and the team at Townmore are proud to play our part. In time, this development will feature 253 social homes with 144 cost-rental homes, creating a vibrant, mixed-tenure community designed to cater to a diverse range of Dubliners.
The event highlighted the strategic importance of Griffin Point in addressing the housing shortages in Dublin while adding a strikingly modern touch to Donaghmede’s landscape. The inclusion of a childcare facility within the site demonstrates the developer’s holistic approach to community building, recognising that such developments are not merely about constructing buildings but creating environments where families can thrive.
Minister Darragh O’Brien, in his address, highlighted the project’s contribution to the national ‘Housing for All’ programme, remarking:
“This development will significantly contribute to our housing delivery targets, enhancing community living standards and ensuring a sustainable future for the residents.”
Hugh McCann of Bluemont shared insights into the collaborative spirit driving the project:
“We work in partnership with Respond and have, to date, delivered over 600 new homes together. This ceremony marks another milestone in our journey towards creating value and quality in housing. Thank you to Townmore for facilitating the event and their continued progress on the scheme.”
Niamh Randall, spokesperson for Respond, celebrated the strong partnerships that have made the development possible:
“Future tenants will become a part of the community here and we hope they will be very happy. This is only possible with the ongoing cooperation of our partners. We would like to extend our thanks to Dublin City Council, the Department of Housing, Heritage and Local Government and the Housing Finance Agency. Our partners are essential to us achieving our goals of delivering additional social homes and providing services in the community. We would like to commend our partners Bluemont Developments and Townmore, who are the contractors on site, for the excellent work that they are doing to build this development to the high level of quality.”
Frank d’Arcy of Dublin City Council and Cllr. Alison Gilliland also echoed these sentiments, emphasising the development’s strategic location and its alignment with community and infrastructure enhancements.
As for our own team, the completion of Griffin Point’s first phase in 2024, followed by the second phase in 2025, will mark significant additions to our portfolio, demonstrating our capability in handling complex, large-scale projects. The topping out ceremony at Griffin Point was more than a traditional builder’s rite; it was a celebration of partnership, progress, and the promise of quality homes for hundreds of families. At Townmore, we are proud to lead such transformative projects.
